Scott's commitment to crafting lightweight bikes is inseparable from its expertise on carbon technology. For the all-new Addict RC, Scott took their approach to carbon road-bike manufacturing and flipped it on its head. Drawing inspiration from their approach to mountain bikes, they meticulously re-evaluated their molding techniques, seeking out innovative ways to enhance performance on the road. The outcome? A remarkable 300g reduction in the frame-kit weight compared to its predecessor, and without any compromise on race performance.
A new way of carbon molding enabled Scott to produce a completely hollow frame without any dead-end tube segments. This process is quite unique in the cycling industry and its only applicable if the frame design is tailor-made for this manufacturing method.
Thanks to the smooth surface of the inflatable preform core, the inside of the frame is super clean and has no signs of voids or wrinkles. Due to the precise inside shape, all the excess resin is extracted from the frame during the molding process, leaving only whats really necessary for stiffness and strength.
The consistent moulding pressure across the complete frame surface ensures optimal compaction of the layup and makes it possible to avoid any additional reinforcement, while reducing the thickness to about 0.6mm in some areas.
Scott's innovative manufacturing process (PP Mandrel) enables high-precision moulding of inner surfaces and transition zones, paired with strength-optimised tube shapes, that eliminates additional reinforcements and unnecessary filler material. The result is best-in-class tube profiles and surfaces, significantly reducing the total weight of the frame without sacrificing strength or stiffness.
With a better carbon layup, a reduction in the number of carbon pieces and joints, and incredible attention to the smaller details, such as seat stays and seat clamp, the team shaved further weight without compromising stiffness.
The new Addict RC's geometry has undergone a comprehensive redesign to align seamlessly with the modern specifications for this bike, accommodating wider tires while enhancing overall handling consistency across all sizes. Whether you're a professional rider or chasing after the local KOMs/QOMs at the weekends, the new Addict RC promises heightened agility and responsiveness, ensuring an unparalleled riding experience.
Coming stock on the bike youll find a 30mm tyre setup. If you need something beefier, no problem. The frame has enough clearance for 34mm tyres.
As the position of the upper headset bearing (frame stack and reach) doesn't correlate with the position of the contact points between rider and bike, Scott introduced the concept of "cockpit stack" and "cockpit reach" to compare the bike-fitting characteristics of their road bikes. Despite its longer frame reach and lower frame stack, the new ADDICT RC offers the identical horizontal and vertical contact point position as the Foil RC.
Scott adapted the Addict RCs geometry to provide agile handling for tight cornering and quick steering manoeuvres. At the same time, Scott wanted to keep the bike stable enough to resist sudden gusts of wind and to avoid feeling nervous at high descending speeds.
